Friendship Matters

“‘Friendship Matters’ is not only women’s fiction but an honest description of the female experience of African American women.”

“The dialogues are the star asset of this novel. Each character has a unique voice, their conversations are authentic, and their insights are so sincere they can even be raw. I also love how real the depiction of the female experience is, which includes not only the endearing moments or the glorious ones, but some silly details that make the story even more realistic. The voice of these women is still sorely underrepresented in literature, and with her book, Rona D. Drinkard makes a great service to all of us. Because of it’s social importance, uplifting plot, memorable characters, and outstanding dialogues, I rate “Friendship Matters” 5 out of 5 stars.”

“Rona made three unforgettable central characters who would enamor the readers with their personalities.”

“The novel talked about family bonding while providing ample glimpses into the trio’s backstories. I admired the loving ties they shared with their families and each other. I loved how they were deeply involved in each other’s lives, caring for the others’ children even. The story proved that being family does not necessarily require a blood relation. The trio’s chemistry was fantastic; it was the strength of their friendship that held them together and helped them deal with life’s curveballs. Despite their occasional competitive streaks and insane banters, each provided a valuable support system for the other two.”

“The author did an amazing job of bringing these characters to life. They are full of personality and passion.”

“What is friendship? According to the Oxford dictionary, a friend is a person with whom one is on terms of mutual affection, a helper or sympathizer. Oxford does not however explain the particular type of friendship that Saisha, Euniqé, and Kandace have. I have had the privilege of getting to know each one of these strong and beautiful ladies. I have become a part of their family and see them like my own friends. Friendship Matters is easy to read, and the overall flow is steady. I loved the fact that the dialogue was written exactly how they would have spoken.”

“Friendship Matters is a bubbly romp through the champagne waters of adult relationships.”

“Rona D. Drinkard has a relaxed writing style that is so casual that you may forget you’re actively reading a book. This dramatic rom-com is refreshingly free of pretension, affectation and needless self-reflection. Instead, readers are dropped right into the non-stop locomotion of these busy women, becoming immediately absorbed in Saisha’s newest boy-toy, Euniqé’s story of heartbreak or the complete 180 degree turn in Kandace’s life. Besides their enduring friendships, these feisty ladies always make time for God, their families, and great music.”

“Friendship Matters by Rona D. Drinkard is a funny, profound novel about three friends who share a close bond.”

“The main characters in Friendship Matters are realistic, and each has a distinctive personality. The dialogue between the friends is entertaining and often hilarious. There are also some captivating, dramatic scenes in the novel. In the story, each character grows. They learn to confront the fears that have held them back and allow themselves to move forward. Their separate lives also contain life lessons about being honest with oneself, letting go of the past, and working toward achieving personal dreams. Friendship Matters by Rona D. Drinkard is a funny, profound novel about three friends who share a close bond.”

“Rona D. Drinkard does an impressive job of capturing all the everyday moments in life, making them shine with excitement and constant movement.”

“The cultural picture is painted vividly, with an endless sampling of rich food, pointed expressions, and moving musical tracks. As for the characters, well, these ladies have personality for miles! Saisha is over-the-top confident about everything from her looks to her seduction skills. Her personality is so big and so loud that it is almost a relief when the point-of-view switches to the more grounded Euniqé and her tragic story of heartbreak. And even Kandace, who struggles to be more than just a suburban housewife, has little difficulty finding her voice as her marriage disintegrates before her eyes.”

“Being her debut novel, Author Rona D. has written an enjoyable tale. Friendship has been a proven anecdote since time immemorial.”
